Day 59, I see...

Way too cold to venture outside today. So for the third day in a row, Molly is my subject.... I know I know, I said I would try not to over do it with Molly pictures, I'll make up for it next week.

So I leave for my big excursion tomorrow! Really hope it warms up a little. It was a little colder in Jasper than it was in Cold Lake today... I feel sorry for the people on the tour before mine. Well, I'll be dressed with enough clothing to keep me warm, as long as my camera doesn't freeze I'll be taking photos for at least 8 hours a day.

Tomorrow night I will be in spending the night in Jasper, if I have time I'll post a photo from my first day. After that you probably won't hear from me until I get back.

So thanks to all of my readers, I will be back in a week or so, hopefully with some of my best work yet!

Day 58, Playtime

Molly made a new friend today. Well for a few minutes at least, until the interest was lost. I love trying to catch the action when dogs are playing, it can be quite challenging to get sharp images.

I haven't been venturing to far for my photos lately. I'm getting all my gear ready for my winter tour in the rockies with Darwin Wiggett! Will be leaving tuesday morning. During my tour I will not be posting my daily photos. I've decided that I will do one or two big posts once I get back that covers all the days I will be gone for. That way I won't have to spend time choosing and editing photos every night during my tour. I'll be able to spend my time with the group, lots of time to edit when I get back. So one last post tomorrow, then I'll be gone for a week. Can't wait!

Day 57, Flying dog

Who says dogs can't fly? It's a good thing she doesn't have wings, those noisy ski doos wouldn't stand a chance.

Day 56, Curling Day!

Today was our sports day at work. This year we had a curling day. I'm not going to say I'm any good but we did have lots of fun. Nobody had to go to the hospital, so it was a good day.

Day 55, Out of focus

I was going to take a macro shot of the pattern in blackberries but when I went to focus, the pattern of highlights caught my eye. So I knocked the focus completely out and came up with this.

Day 54, Something a little nicer

First time out with the dog since I got sick last week. Wow, is it ever cold out there. I figured I'd have to make up for yesterdays horrible photo. Nothing too complicated today. I just love these simple images I can make in the winter with the snow isolating little bits of nature. Also makes a nice canvas for shadows.

Day 53, Is it gross or beautiful?

We went out for breakfast this morning and I got the cowboy breakfast. Comes with a lot of meat. I thought it might make a nice close up abstract photo. I can't decide if I like it or if it grosses me out, ha ha. I keep having to look at it, so at least its engaging...

Day 52, Waking up to a beautiful view

Don't you love it when you go to take the first sip of your coffee in the morning and you catch the reflection of the beautiful scenery......... and then you wake up and realize it's from your desktop wallpaper on your computer...... I really don't want to look outside now.

Day 51, A little cold for flowers

Took a drive to the Provincial Park this afternoon to see if I could see something interesting. I was actually turning around in the parking lot by the boat docks when I noticed a rose in the snow. Not sure who put it there but it suited my needs to find something interesting. I like the shadow and the blotches of light coming thru the trees.

Day 49, It's a boy!

Most of you already knew we were having a little boy in May, just thought it was a good title for the photo. Amy Jo had her baby shower last night, wow did we ever get a lot of nice things for our baby. I want to thank all of her friends for being supportive, it means a lot to us. A special thanks goes out to Suzanne and Karen for organizing the special night for my wife, she had an amazing time.

Day 48, Mmmmmm Sandwich

Starting to recover from the flu. I was ready to eat something other than soup today so Amy Jo made me this awesome sandwich. Thanks babe!

Day 47, Minimum effort

The flu has me feeling pretty amazing. Needless to say, today's photo was the closest thing within range that had any sort of texture and composition. I should of gotten a flu shot this year.........

Day 45, Am I over my head?

Just started working towards a Business degree this weekend. I spent so much time reading the small print in my first textbook I figured I'd use it to express my feelings about it.

In all seriousness, it's not that bad. I actually find it all very interesting, lets hope all the courses are like this one...

Day 44, Filter testing...

When you use a lot of neutral density filters with digital cameras, it creates a magenta cast in the colour of the image. I've been thinking of a way to get rid of that annoying magenta cast that has ruined so many of my photos and I think I'm pretty close. When I perfect the technique I'll be posting a small "How to" article on my blog. I almost had it today but I didn't take something into account (I'll explain in the article). So, for all you nature photographers out there who use ND filters. This photo was taken with a total of 10 stops of light being blocked by sing ray filters, the photo started out pretty much completely magenta/purple....

Day 41, Some Pink and Some Blue

Didn't expect much of a sunset today but there was actually some decent colour in the sky. I wish the sun would set a little more towards the right.......

Day 40, For Amy Jo

Trying to not use my dog for the daily pic as much as I can but Amy Jo is in Edmonton with her mom for a few days. So I figured she wouldn't mind seeing her little Molly. Just chewing on her rope as per usual....

Day 39, A little bit of Blue

I really enjoy the silhouettes of twisted trees at dusk, this one stood out to me on my walk today. The sky was a beautifully rich blue tonight.

Sunday, February 6, 2011

Day 37, Fire in the sky

Beautiful sunset tonight. A big challenge is to find something nice to put in front of your sunset. Can anyone guess where this was taken from in Cold Lake?

Day 35, Something smells fishy

Started out trying to take a portrait of the dog tonight, that didn't work out too great. Lack of cooperation had me almost ready to put away my gear, then I thought "Hey, the fish can't go anywhere!" They move a lot faster than I thought. Ended up with a few decent shots.

Day 34, Patterns

Finally made it out to the old train bridge tonight. I had no idea where it was so I got there a little late. At least now I know where to go.

Day 33, Ice Crystal

Had a fun time with these shots today. In the first one I got down nice and low so I could hide the sun behind this piece of ice.

Day 32, Air Bubbles

Macro shot of an ice pellet about the size of a dime. The highlights reflecting off the air bubbles inside caught my eye. I love how close you can get with a point and shoot set to macro.
