Day 2, Winter Magic Photography Tour, March 2nd 2011

So my second day started with me waking up at 5am, checking the weather and going back to bed until 7. No point in getting up that early if there won't be a sunrise. This was going to be my travel day to Aurum Lodge and the real start to my photography tour with Darwin Wiggett. Got some amazing breakfast and a chai latte from Coco's Cafe, my favorite spot in Jasper, and headed out onto the icefield parkway. But not before I stopped to take a quick photo of the elk having a snack downtown. Funny how that's normal for the people who live there.

The drive to the lodge is about 2 hours but I took my time, looking for good photo opportunities. The driving conditions where great but the weather wasn't the greatest for photos. The above raven was waiting for me after I stopped for a pitstop, he hung around even after I got back in the truck so I made a few portraits since he was so willing to model.

Gotta Love his Bart Simpson style hairdo.

Except for that, it was a pretty uneventful drive. I could of stopped at many more places but I was just anxious to get to the lodge and meet the other participants.

Came across a herd of deer about 10 kilometres out from the lodge, so I stopped for a few shots.

I was the first to arrive, mind you I was a couple hours early. Didn't take long for the others to show up. Bruce was the next to get there, he was also early so we decided to take a walk and check out the scenery by the lodge. What a view! The following photos where taken not even a hundred meters behind our accommodations. Turns out Bruce is also a fellow iStocker, so that was pretty cool.

Then I got to finally meet Darwin, Sam and the rest of the participants. What a great atmosphere. 11 photographers sharing a meal....... my wife's worst nightmare, ha ha.

And that's pretty much it for my second day. The good photo opportunities started the next day with Darwin and Alan working their magic and bringing us to all the best spots depending on the light.
